Niamh Howley
BSc Nursing, Post Grad Dip Diabetes Registered Nurse, Credentialled Diabetes Educator
Niamh’s nursing career has been gained in the UK, Ireland and Australia. She is very fortunate to have a varied diabetes career which has been spent working with adults and children with Type 1, Type 2, Gestational diabetes and diabetes secondary to other conditions, including steroid treatment, cancer treatment, surgery and Cystic Fibrosis.
Niamh spent 6 years working at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney where she developed a passion for working with children and adolescents with diabetes. She has a special interest in working with insulin pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitoring devices. Prior to this her main clinical practice was with adults with all types of diabetes. She has maintained her interest and knowledge of diabetes in all ages and stages of life, with recent practice at Greenslopes Private Hospital and currently also working part-time at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Niamh has extensive experience in using new diabetes technologies and finds this an exciting way forward in diabetes management in reducing the burden of diabetes care for people. She is also very experienced in the use of oral medications, insulin and GLP-1 medications for treating Type 2 diabetes and has broad experience in initiating these medications.
Niamh is passionate about helping people and believes that knowledge and education, empower people with diabetes, to best manage their condition. She offers individualised patient education, which is tailored to meeting the particular need of each client.
